American stocks are trading in the red at the opening bell

U.S. stocks declined significantly after the opening of the session on Wednesday, with the performance of the benchmark indices as follows:

  • The S&P 500 index fell noticeably by about 0.21% to reach 7,593.44 points.
  • The Nasdaq Composite index lost about 84.78 points, or 0.31%, to record a level of 27,009.117 points.
  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded near 51,104.60 points, with a decline percentage of 0.40%, losing about 203.19 points at the opening.

At the close of the U.S. stock session yesterday, the benchmark indices ended the session at new record levels on Tuesday, as the S&P 500 index rose by 0.13%, surpassing the 7,600-point mark for the first time ever. The Nasdaq Composite index recorded slight gains of 0.03%, while the Dow Jones increased by 228.91 points or 0.45%.

Statistics released today revealed a growth in the number of jobs added by the U.S. economy in the private sector, amounting to 122 thousand new jobs by the end of May, according to data from the ADP, which was higher than expectations of 118 thousand jobs, after the U.S. economy added approximately 105 thousand new jobs in April.

The markets are awaiting the release of official labor market data in the United States next Friday, which has implications for the employment market and its impact on the U.S. Federal Reserve policy and interest rate trajectory, which in turn could clearly affect U.S. stock trading.
