European stock indices opened stable on Thursday, as the major indices showed little change with investors awaiting a speech from U.S. President Donald Trump at the World Economic Forum later in the day, just one day ahead of the preliminary readings for the manufacturing and services purchasing managers' indices in the Eurozone countries.

In terms of trading, the performance of European stock indices today was as follows:

  • The Euro Stoxx 600 index fell slightly by 0.12% to record 527.3 points, with shares of sports equipment company Puma declining by 19% after reporting lower-than-expected quarterly sales.
  • The French CAC 40 index settled at 8,542.25 points.
  • The German DAX index remained stable at 21,263.10 points.
  • The British FTSE 100 index steadied at 8,541.06 points.
  • The Italian FTSE MIB index settled at 35,836.00 points.
  • The Spanish IBEX 35 index rose by about 0.25% to record 11,912.70 points.
