European stock indices showed mixed performance during Tuesday's session, with the British stock index being the only winner, supported by labor market data released in the UK this morning, which showed a much lower-than-expected increase in unemployment claims for November.

At the beginning of today’s session, the performance of the major European stock indices was as follows:

  • The Euro Stoxx 600 index rose marginally by  0.6% to record 524.10 points.
  • The French CAC 40 index remained steady at 7,734.62 points.
  • The German DAX index declined by  0.18% to 20,952.12 points.
  • The British FTSE 100 index rose by  0.15%, recording 8,530.96 points.
  • The Italian FTSE MIB index fell by  0.44% to record 35,983.68 points.
  • The Spanish IBEX 35 index declined marginally by about  0.70% to record 11,861.10 points.

On the positive side, the healthcare sector index gained around 0.5% amid gains in shares of Danish pharmaceutical manufacturer Novo Nordisk, whose shares rose by about 2% after announcing its quarterly earnings.

On the negative side, the automotive sector led the session's losses, with the sector index declining by about 1%, following Trump's announcement of his aim to achieve 50% of electric vehicle sales out of total vehicle sales in the United States by 2023.
