On Wednesday morning, the renowned Japanese news agency Nikkei published a report conveying the views of former Finance Ministry official Tatsu Yamasaki regarding the current situation of the Japanese yen in its movements against the US dollar.

According to the Nikkei report, Yamasaki spoke with the Japanese news agency in a media interview, stating that it would be good for the elected U.S. President Donald Trump to cooperate with the Japanese administration after his inauguration to work on weakening the excessively strong US dollar against the Japanese yen.

During his previous term, Trump described the strength of the US dollar as "a curse for the American economy," pointing to the negative impact of the strong greenback on the volume of U.S. exports, as it raises the cost of American goods.

It is worth noting that Yamasaki is a former Deputy Minister of Finance for International Affairs, and currently, Kanda is the official who instructs the Bank of Japan to intervene in the foreign exchange market when deemed necessary, often referred to as "Japan's best currency diplomat."
