The United States imposes new sanctions on Iran related to the oil and energy sector.

The Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced on its website Thursday that the United States has imposed new sanctions against Iran targeting additional entities and individuals.
Among those affected are companies operating in the crude oil, energy, and shipping sectors, as well as those dealing with vessels of the shadow fleet (affiliated with Russia). In a separate statement, the State Department confirmed that the United States will not tolerate Iran's "destructive and destabilizing behavior and actions."
Additionally, the State Department's statement indicated that the current actions taken by the United States target the international network that channels illicit revenues to the Iranian military.
This network has been designated to facilitate millions of barrels of illicit Iranian oil shipments headed to China, and these revenues are used to fund the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian armed forces through its front company Sepehr Energy. Thus, proceeds from these sales support terrorist and proxy groups.
