The Nikkei newspaper reported on Friday – citing several sources familiar with the matter – that most monetary policy makers at the Bank of Japan support raising interest rates at the bank's meeting scheduled for next week.

The Nikkei mentioned that while some policymakers at the Bank of Japan remain cautious about raising interest rates, it is likely that an increase will be agreed upon by the majority at the monetary policy meeting next week, on January 23 and 24.

This comes just a day after Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda stated that the monetary policy committee will discuss the option of raising interest rates at the upcoming meeting in light of the clear improvements in economic and inflation data, and with preparations for significant wage increases.
